National Council for the Social Studies 

Founded in 1921, National Council for the Social Studies has grown to be the largest association in the country devoted solely to social studies education. NCSS engages and supports educators in strengthening and advocating social studies. With members in all the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 69 foreign countries, NCSS serves as an umbrella organization for elementary, secondary, and college teachers of history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law-related education. 

The Organization of American Historians 
The Organization of American Historians promotes excellence in the scholarship, teaching, and presentation of American history, and encourages wide discussion of historical questions and equitable treatment of all practitioners of history. This website includes archived issues of the Journal of American History and the Magazine of History, a quarterly magazine that focuses on a different theme in each issue. A Teachers Resources section is included in each issue with lesson plans, resources and primary source documents for teachers to use in the classroom.

Teaching with Historic Places
Administered by the National Park Service, and utilizing ruins, presidential homes, battlefields, factories, main streets farms and other national historic sites to bring history alive!  Excellent for the examination of primary source materials and topical lesson plans.
