Jefferson County's Virtual Learning AcademyJefferson County's "Virtual Learning Academy" is an on-line alternative to the traditional classroom. This program provides students, parents and teachers with the flexibility to offer courses from within the walls of the classroom and beyond. Students in grades 2-12 can take more than 80 online educational offerings through a robust delivery system. Each course if fully aligned to Ohio’s Academic Content Standards. VLA can be used to service any student that the superintendent deems necessary including those who are:
• Home-bound
• Home Schooled
• In Need of Credit Reclamation
• Dropped Out
• Special Needs & At-Risk
• Assigned to Alternative Schools
The VLA program consists of four modules:
Student • Teacher • Parent • Point of Contact
Students may access the curriculum in three ways:
- A Content-Only Screen
- A Question-Only Screen
- Split Screen (showing both content and questions)
Costs are quite reasonable with an initial cost of $2500 administrative fee to a cost of $175 per student per calendar year, unlimited courses. If a VLA course is taught by a Jefferson County teacher, there is a $210 cost per course as well.
