Moodle and Sakai
Visit Moodle's website here.Moodle is an open source software package course management system that allows educators to create and manage their own courses and/or units to use in a blended classroom. You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a 50,000-student University.

SPARCC is striving to support the use of teacher created on-line courses and units by creating a repository of Moodle hosted lessons, units and courses. These courses and units will be available to share with all users and will increase the number of lesson the contributors can access as well.
Sakai
Sakai is a set of software tools designed to help instructors, researchers and students create websites on the web. For coursework, Sakai provides features to supplement and enhance teaching and learning. For collaboration, Sakai has tools to help organize communication and collaborative work on campus and around the world. Using a web browser, users choose from Sakai's tools to create a site that meets their needs.
eTech Ohio is partnering with the SPARCC ITC, and schools in Stark and Portage counties, to create a learning platform that schools across Ohio can use for online learning. Sakai is the software that is being modified for this purpose. If you have teachers interested in being part of this pilot project for the fall of 2007, contact Jim Vincent at jim.vincent@email.sparcc.org.
